Psychological Counselor

 

Definition: A professional who applies psychological theories and professional counseling skills to provide psychological support, guidance and intervention for individuals (or groups) who are experiencing emotional, cognitive, or behavioral distress, helping them to alleviate pain, improve their psychological state, and enhance their self-function.

 

The core of their work revolves around "solving psychological distress and promoting mental health", with key characteristics and scope as follows:

 

- Clientele:arily focused on individuals with normal mental health but experiencing distress, such as those with emotional issues (e.g., depression, irritability, insomnia) caused by academic pressure workplace anxiety, marital conflicts, parent-child conflicts, bereavement, etc., rather than diagnosed psychiatric patients (who require treatment by a psychiatrist).

- Core: Based on different psychological schools of thought (e.g., cognitive-behavioral therapy, humanistic therapy, psychodynamic therapy, etc.), through one--one counseling, group counseling, etc., to guide the client to sort out problems, self-awareness, and adjust their cognitive or behavioral patterns, rather than directly providingsolutions".

- Professional Boundaries: Strictly adhere to confidentiality principles (except in special cases involving self-harm or harm to others), not engaged in medical or drug treatment, and if the client shows a tendency towards psychiatric illness, they will recommend referral to psychiatric medical institutions.
