A purchasing and transportation engineer is a professional responsible for the overall coordination and management of the transportation process of materials purchased a company from suppliers to the company's warehouse or designated locations. The core is to optimize transportation plans to ensure that purchased materials are delivered on time, safely, and at a cost, to connect the procurement with the warehousing, production, and other links, and to ensure the smooth supply chain.
Main job responsibilities:
- plan planning: According to the characteristics of the purchased materials (such as weight, volume, fragility, timeliness, etc.), transportation distance, cost budget, etc. choose the appropriate transportation mode (such as highway, railway, sea transportation, air transportation, etc.), design the optimal transportation route and distribution plan.
- Transportation service provider: Screen and evaluate transportation service providers (such as logistics companies, fleets, etc.), negotiate transportation prices, service terms and safeguards, sign transportation contracts, establish relationships and manage them dynamically.
- Transportation process monitoring: Track the status of material transportation, coordinate and solve emergencies in transportation (such as delays, damage, route adjustments, etc), ensure that materials are delivered according to plan; at the same time, make good transportation records and hand over to the warehousing department.
- Cost and risk control Analyze the composition of transportation costs (such as freight, insurance, road and bridge fees, etc.), reduce costs through integrated transportation demand and route optimization; identify transportation riskssuch as weather impact, logistics interruption, etc.), formulate emergency plans and purchase relevant insurance.
- Data management and optimization: Collect transportation data (such as timeliness cost, damage rate, etc.), carry out statistical analysis, assess the rationality of transportation plans, and continuously optimize transportation processes and service provider selection to improve transportation efficiency
Required skills and qualities:
- Possess professional knowledge of logistics and transportation, and be familiar with the characteristics, processes, and relevant regulations of various transportation modes ( as road transport regulations, cargo transport rules, etc.).
- Have strong planning ability and cost awareness, and be able to develop economical and efficient transportation plans according to procurement.
- Have good communication and coordination skills, and be able to effectively connect with suppliers, transport providers, warehousing departments, and other parties to solve transportation issues.
Strong adaptability, able to quickly handle emergencies in transportation, to ensure that the transportation of materials is not obstructed; at the same time, the work is meticulous, focusing the details of the transportation process.
